We all met up at the Rochester airport and got our tickets and tagged our luggage and generally started to get really excited! Our first flight was from Rochester to Philadelphia, where we had a 4ish hour layover. That flight was turbulent, though I was told it wasn't really bad turbulence, and my knees were shaking by the time we landed. I had some delicious chicken teriyaki for lupper (you know... lunch/supper) at the airport and then we had our overnight flight to Spain!!
They served us dinner on the plane... I am always amazed at how good I think airline food is, even though I expect it to be terrible. I can't remember what I ate, but I know it was good and I know that I ate it all.
I tried like crazy to go to sleep, but I am one of those people who have to stay awake so that the plane doesn't crash. If I'm awake, we'll all be fine. Don't worry, there's at least one of us on every flight! I ended up watching Jack the Giant Slayer and something else that I don't remember. I got about 45 minutes of sleep... I was finally enticed to pass out when I put some T. Swift on my iPod.
We got into Madrid ahead of schedule and got our bags with no problems. By this point, it was actually July 4, because we had flown through the night. You'll want to see the next post for more on what we did on our first full day in Spain!
